Help & FAQ

Installing, activating and using Velopoint, plus the detail IT teams ask for: proxies, policy settings and exactly what goes over the network. Can’t find your answer? Email support@velocel.app.

Getting started

Velopoint is a command palette for desktop PowerPoint on Windows. Most people are up and running in under two minutes.

  1. Buy and check your emailCheckout is handled by Lemon Squeezy. Your licence key and a download link arrive by email straight after purchase. Need the installer again later? Download it at velopoint.app/download with your licence key. Every purchase is covered by a 14-day money-back guarantee.
  2. InstallClose PowerPoint, then run Velopoint-Setup-x.y.z.exe. It installs for your Windows user only, so no administrator rights are needed, and the same installer works for 32- and 64-bit PowerPoint. If Windows shows a warning during setup, see Troubleshooting.
  3. ActivateOpen PowerPoint and press Ctrl Shift K. On a fresh install Velopoint asks for your licence key: paste it from the email and click Activate. You can reopen the activation window at any time with the lica command.
  4. Run your first commandsSelect some shapes, press Ctrl Shift K, type and press Enter. Good first commands are in the table below. You don’t need the codes: typing “dist hor” finds Distribute Horizontal, and “dh” finds it by its initials.
ShortcutWhat it does
alAlign Left. Also ar, at, ab, ac, am and cs (center on slide).
dhsDistribute Horizontal with Spacing: equal widths and the gap you type, in cm (mm, pt and in also work). dvs does the same vertically.
strStretch Right: extend the visible right edge to the rightmost shape, or to the slide edge for a single shape. Also stl, stt, stb.
tbbTable Border Bottom. Also tbh (header rule), tshd (shade rows) and tcmn (narrow cell margins).
fixfnFix Footnote: 7 pt, zero text margins, placed bottom-left. fixpn places the page number.
imgauditImage Audit: lists embedded images by actual file size, largest first.
pdfExport as PDF without document properties or structure tags. Hidden slides are left out.
mailEmail the selected slides as PDF or PPTX through Outlook, with a file name you choose. cpnew copies them to a new presentation instead.
Which versions of PowerPoint are supported?

Desktop PowerPoint 2016, 2019, 2021 and Microsoft 365 on Windows 10 or Windows 11, in both 32- and 64-bit. One installer covers both.

Does Velopoint work on a Mac or in PowerPoint for the web?

No. Velopoint is a Windows add-in for desktop PowerPoint. PowerPoint for Mac, PowerPoint for the web and PowerPoint on iPad or mobile are not supported.

How do I open the command palette?

Press Ctrl+Shift+K while the PowerPoint window is active, or click Open Palette on the Velopoint ribbon tab. Type a command name, its initials or its shortcut and press Enter. Tab completes a shortcut and Esc closes the palette.

Can I undo a command?

Yes. Every command is a single undo step, so one Ctrl+Z reverts the whole command, however many shapes it changed.

Do I need administrator rights to install Velopoint?

No. The installer runs as your own Windows user, installs into your profile (%APPDATA%\Velopoint) and registers the add-in for your user only. It does not install services, drivers or anything machine-wide.

Licensing & computers

A licence is for one named user and activates on up to three computers. Everything is managed from the palette, and these commands work even before Velopoint is activated.

CommandWhat it does
licaActivate License: enter your licence key on this computer.
licdDeactivate License: remove the licence from this computer and free one of your three activations. A Velo Suite seat is freed for both apps.
licLicense Status: show the plan and included products, activations used, expiry and when it was last validated.
licmManage License: open your Lemon Squeezy customer portal (My Orders) in your browser.
liccClear License Cache: discard the local licence cache and re-validate online.
How many computers can I use Velopoint on?

Up to three computers that you own or control, for one named user, for example a work desktop, a laptop and a home PC. Each person who uses Velopoint needs their own licence.

I have Velo Suite. Do I activate Velopoint separately?

Usually not. A Velo Suite key works in both Velopoint and Velocel, and a computer counts once whether it runs one app or both. If Velocel on the same computer is already activated with a Velo Suite key, Velopoint activates itself with that key in the background. Otherwise press Ctrl+Shift+K in PowerPoint and paste the same key.

How do I move Velopoint to a new computer?

On the old computer, run the licd command to free its activation. Then download the installer at velopoint.app/download with your licence key, install Velopoint on the new computer and activate it with the same key. If the old computer is lost or no longer works, email support@velocel.app and we will release the activation for you.

I have lost my licence key. Where can I find it?

Sign in to My Orders at Lemon Squeezy with the email address you bought with. Your key is listed with the order. You can also search your inbox for the purchase email, or ask support@velocel.app.

Does Velopoint work offline?

Yes. Velopoint validates your licence online and caches the result, so it keeps working on flights and on networks without internet access for a short offline grace period (currently three days). Once you are back online it re-validates in the background.

What happens if my subscription ends?

Velopoint stops running, but your presentations are untouched. Every command makes ordinary PowerPoint edits, so nothing in your files depends on the add-in staying installed. Renew at any time and activate again to pick up where you left off.

Updates

Updates are included in your subscription. Velopoint keeps itself current, and IT teams can take control of the process.

How does Velopoint update itself?

Shortly after PowerPoint starts, Velopoint checks for a new version in the background. If one is available it lets you know, at most once a day, and asks before downloading. The installer is verified against its published SHA-256 checksum before it runs, and the update installs once PowerPoint has closed. You can close PowerPoint straight away or carry on working and let it install later.

How do I check for updates manually?

Run the upd command (Check for Updates) from the palette, or click Check for Updates on the Velopoint ribbon tab. It works even when automatic update notices are switched off by your IT department.

Why does Velopoint say an update is required?

Older versions are retired from time to time. If yours has been, the palette shows an Update required panel instead of running commands. Click Update now to install the current version, or ask your IT department if updates on your computer are managed by them.

Can IT control or disable updates?

Yes. Velopoint reads standard Windows policy settings, so IT can switch it to IT-managed updates, mute the automatic update notice, choose the update channel or pin an exact version using Group Policy or Intune. In IT-managed mode Velopoint never installs updates itself. It only tells the user that a new version is available. The settings are listed below.

Policy settings for IT

Settings are read from HKLM\SOFTWARE\Policies\Velopoint (machine policy, which takes precedence), then HKCU\SOFTWARE\Policies\Velopoint (user policy), then an optional %ProgramData%\Velopoint\policy.ini file. The value names are the same as Velocel’s, under Velopoint’s own key, and can be set with Group Policy registry preferences, Intune or a registry file. With no policy set, Velopoint self-updates from the stable channel.

SettingValuesEffect
UpdateModeSelfUpdate (default) or ManagedManaged: Velopoint never downloads or installs updates. IT deploys new versions. Users are still told when an update exists.
AutoUpdateCheck1 (default) or 00 mutes the automatic “update available” notice after PowerPoint starts. Velopoint still checks its version at start-up, so a required update is still enforced, and the manual upd command still works.
UpdateChannelstable (default) or previewWhich release channel to follow.
PinnedVersione.g. 2.1.0Keep this exact version. Updates to any other version are suppressed.
Telemetry1 (default) or 00 turns off technical diagnostics. No diagnostic events are queued or sent, and any already queued are deleted at the next PowerPoint start. Licence and update checks are unaffected.

Corporate networks & IT

Velopoint is built to run inside locked-down finance environments: per-user install, minimal network traffic, and support for corporate proxies.

What network connections does Velopoint make?

Only HTTPS requests to api.velocel.app, the licence server Velopoint shares with Velocel, for three purposes: licence activation and checks, update checks (including downloading an update you have accepted), and technical diagnostics (start-up, update and error events). No presentation content is ever sent, and Velopoint does not record which commands you use. IT can switch diagnostics off with the policy Telemetry=0 (see Policy settings for IT). To allow Velopoint through a firewall, permit outbound HTTPS (port 443) to api.velocel.app. Commands that open a web page, such as licm, open it in your normal browser, and Email Slides (mail) hands the file to Outlook on your own computer.

Does Velopoint work behind a corporate proxy?

Yes. Velopoint uses the Windows system proxy (the same settings your browser uses, including PAC and WPAD auto-detection) and authenticates with your Windows credentials. To force a specific proxy, set the HTTPS_PROXY environment variable (for example http://proxy.example.com:8080). It takes precedence over the system setting. Because Velopoint uses the Windows certificate store, proxies that inspect TLS work as long as the machine already trusts your organization’s certificate.

How do I diagnose network problems?

Check that outbound HTTPS to api.velocel.app is allowed. Velopoint records connection errors in its log, %APPDATA%\Velopoint\velopoint.log. If activation or updates fail on your network, send that file to support@velocel.app. If Velocel is installed on the same computer, its netdiag command tests the connection to the same server.

What does the installer change on the machine?

It copies the add-in and its updater into %APPDATA%\Velopoint and registers the add-in with PowerPoint for the current user (under HKCU), including PowerPoint’s list of add-ins it should not disable. It needs no administrator rights, adds no Trusted Location, and installs no services or scheduled tasks. It uninstalls cleanly from Windows Settings > Apps.

Can we deploy Velopoint silently to many computers?

Yes. The installer supports a silent install with /S. One installer covers 32- and 64-bit PowerPoint, so there is no bitness switch. Because Velopoint installs per user, run it in the user’s context (for example as an Intune Win32 app installed for the user). If PowerPoint is open, a silent install waits up to 60 seconds for it to close and then exits with code 2, leaving any existing installation untouched. Combine it with the policy settings to control versions centrally. For firm-wide rollouts, see Enterprise.

Troubleshooting

The common problems and how to fix them. Velopoint writes a log to %APPDATA%\Velopoint\velopoint.log (and the installer to install.log in the same folder). Attach it when you email support.

The Velopoint tab is missing or Ctrl+Shift+K does nothing

Check that PowerPoint has loaded the add-in:

  1. In PowerPoint, go to File > Options > Add-ins.
  2. At the bottom, set Manage to COM Add-ins and click Go.
  3. Make sure Velopoint is ticked, then click OK.
  4. Back in File > Options > Add-ins, set Manage to Disabled Items and click Go. If Velopoint is listed there, select it and click Enable.
  5. Restart PowerPoint.

Velopoint is a COM add-in, so it cannot be added with Browse. If it is not listed under COM Add-ins at all, run the installer again. If the ribbon tab is there but the shortcut does nothing, click into the slide so the PowerPoint window is active, or open the palette from the ribbon. Another add-in may also have claimed Ctrl+Shift+K.

Do I need the 32-bit or the 64-bit version?

Neither, there is only one. The same installer and add-in work in 32- and 64-bit PowerPoint, so reinstalling Office with a different bitness needs no change.

Windows says “Windows protected your PC” when I run the installer

Our installer is not yet code-signed (signing is on the way), so Windows SmartScreen may show this warning the first time you run it. To continue, click More info and then Run anyway. Only do this for an installer you downloaded from velopoint.app, velocel.app or the link in your purchase email.

For the same reason, Velopoint will not load if your organization has enabled “Require Application Add-ins to be signed by Trusted Publisher” in PowerPoint’s Trust Center, and some IT policies block unsigned software outright. If that applies to you, ask your IT department to allow Velopoint, or email support@velocel.app.

The installer says PowerPoint is running

Save your work, close every PowerPoint window and click Retry. PowerPoint keeps the add-in loaded while it runs, so it has to be closed before the files can be replaced. If you have closed all windows and still see the message, end any remaining POWERPNT.EXE process in Task Manager.

Activation fails. What do the error messages mean?
  • Invalid license key: paste the key exactly as it appears in your purchase email or in My Orders, without extra spaces, and make sure it is the licence key rather than the order number.
  • Activation limit reached: the key is already active on three computers. Run licd in Velopoint or Velocel on one you no longer use, or email support@velocel.app.
  • This license key doesn’t include Velopoint: the key is for a plan without Velopoint, such as Velocel on its own. Use a Velopoint or Velo Suite key.
  • This license has expired: the subscription has ended. Renew it from My Orders at Lemon Squeezy, then activate again.
  • Your license needs to reconnect to verify: Velopoint has been offline for longer than the grace period. Connect to the internet and reopen the palette.
  • Could not reach the license server: usually a proxy or firewall. Allow outbound HTTPS to api.velocel.app and send your log file to support@velocel.app.

Billing & refunds

Velopoint is an annual subscription: $59 a year per user, on up to three computers. Velo Suite, which adds Velocel for Excel on the same licence key, is $119 a year. Prices can change at renewal, with at least 30 days’ email notice. See Pricing for team plans, and our Terms of Service and Refund Policy for full details.

Who handles payment, VAT and invoices?

Lemon Squeezy is our reseller and merchant of record. It handles the payment, applicable sales tax or VAT, and your receipt and invoice, which you can find under My Orders at Lemon Squeezy. The licence itself is granted by Maspell AS.

Can I try Velopoint before committing?

Yes. Every purchase and every annual renewal is covered by a 14-day money-back guarantee. If Velopoint isn’t right for you, email support@velocel.app within 14 days for a full refund.
